As head of the supreme court, the High Inquisitor is responsible for the allocation of cases and appointment of constitutional benches which deal with important matters of law. He is the highest judicial officer in the country, serves as a spokesperson for the princely government's judicial branch and acts as a chief administrative officer for the justice courts. In accordance with Article 145 of the Constitution of Roschfallen and the Inquisitional Court Rules of Procedure of 2017, the High Inquisitor allocates all work to the other judges who are bound to refer the matter back to him or her (for re-allocation) in any case where they require it to be looked into by a larger bench of more judges.
The High Inquisitor leads the business of the Inquisitional Court and presides over oral arguments. When the court renders an opinion, the High Inquisitor—when in the majority—decides who writes the court's opinion. The High Inquisitor also has significant agenda-setting power over the court's meetings.
Since the Inquisitional Court was established in 2015, 2 persons have served as High Inquisitors, the current Inquisitor is Fernando Degani (since 2018).
