Christian I (Christian von Letzembourg), was a prominent Karno-Ruthenian, Pavlovian and Imvrassian politician and military leader. He is the founder and Head of State of the Grand Duchy of Letzembourg, and the Regent of the Kingdom of Acrin. Christian is the former President of the Abgeordnetenhaus of Karnia-Ruthenia until its dissolution on 01 August 2017, and is the Minister of State of Home Affairs. He is also the first ambassador of Karnia-Ruthenia to the United States.

On 22 June 2017, he became the third Domnitor of Carpathia, which brought him the status of national hero, considering that his performance was essential to reunite Carpathia to the Empire. On the following year, on 18 March 2018, he was acclaimed by the I Legislature as President of the House of Representatives.

Due the Treaty of Leige, he left the Empire and lost his royal status, being "merely" a noble. He continued his micronational carreer in Pavlov.

Macronational Life[edit | edit source]

Christian was born in the state of North Carolina, on 28 October 2000. As his father was currently serving in the United States Marine Corps at the time of his birth, he was subject constant moving and traveling with his family. Christian lived in the United States his whole life, however has lived on both the east and west coasts, and briefly in the state of Hawai'i. After 23 years of honorable service, his father retired from the United States Marine Corps and the family moved back to the state of North Carolina, where they still currently reside.

He is currently studying in university to obtain his BA in Multi-/Interdisciplinary Studies, with a major concentration in Russian language and culture. He intends to study abroad in the city of Saint Petersburg in late 2021, with the intent of strengthening his Russian language skills, as well as social skills in other areas of the world. Due to the nature of his studies, combined with his military background, he was given the opportunity to contract with the United States Army as an Officer Candidate, but declined in favor of practicing medicine, and remaining with his current unit.

In March of 2019, Christian obtained the non-hereditary, manorial and honorific title of Lord of the Manor of the Hougun Manor Estate, and was dedicated his own plot of land on the estate in Cumbria, England. Though he typically does not use his title during everyday interactions, he legally retains the right to use the title "Lord" when signing official documents. Aside from his British title, he was also appointed the official United States representative of the Ukrainian Royal House in Exile, on 11 February 2020, by Grand Prince Dionisiy Feofanovych, successor of his grandfather who held the legitimate claim over the throne of the Grand Principality of Kyiv and Chernihiv.

Micronational Life[edit | edit source]

On 11 April 2016, Christian became a citizen of the Karnian Empire, and took the name of "Christian von Letzembourg." He assumed office as leader of the Lower House of Karnia, the Abgeordnetenhaus. As he gained the trust of his peers, and rose within the government of Karnia, Christian was appointed as the Minister of Interior, being tasked with the administration and development of the lands and territories of the Empire. Christian was appointed as the High-Commissioner of the Kingdom of Acrin on 11 May 2016, later being appointed as Acrin's Regent, serving closely with His Imperial and Royal Majesty, Oscar I.

Military Conflicts[edit | edit source]

After two days of intense correspondence, on the afternoon of 21 May 2016, Emperor-King Oscar I met with the Prime Minister of the Imperial Grand Duchy of Lundenwic, Mike Lewis, Marquis of New Charter, to discuss the renewal of the treaty of diplomatic relations between the Empire of Karnia-Ruthenia and the civil war in progress in the Grand Duchy. After the meeting, His Imperial and Royal Majesty stated that the Empire would intervene in favor of the legitimate government of the Grand Duchy and called the General Staff of the Armed Forces. Prior to the conflict, Christian was granted the rank of Major in the Imperial and Royal Army and appointed to the position of Chief of Staff of the Army, serving on the General Staff of the Imperial and Royal Armed Forces of Karnia-Ruthenia.

In 2017, Christian relieved command of the Imperial and Royal Army, in the favor of the Imperial and Royal Navy, where he was granted the rank of Counter Admiral by His Imperial and Royal Majesty.

2017 Karno-Ruthenian coup d'état attempt[edit | edit source]

On 15 January 2017, Christian, Grand Duke of Letzembourg and Emperor-King Oscar met to discuss plans for the expansion of the Empire. The idea was to attract micronations influenced by the Germanic culture to join the Empire. The first micronation chosen to implement this plan was the Duchy of Prussian Britannia, micronation already recognized by the Kingdom of Ruthenia since 19 December 2014. Inactive for more than a year, the Grand Duke got the contact of the then Duke Robert. On the night of 16 January 2017, the Government of Karnia-Ruthenia, through the Grand Duke of Letzembourg, approached with the then inert government of the Duchy of Prussian Britannia, then ruled by Robert Bailey. Initially interested, preparations for the union between the Grand Duchy of Letzembourg and the Duchy of Prussian Britannia began to be elaborated.

Throughout the following, Robert Bailey tried to communicate with other members of the Government, seeking support to dissolve parliaments, as reported to the Imperial Cabinet by The Right Honorable Count of Fleurac and by many other Government officials, what was discovered by the Imperial and Royal Secret Service, during routine activities of surveillance and defense and the content of various conversations that were presented to Oscar I who questioned Christian of Letzembourg, who in turn denounced the illegal activity of the former Duke of Prussian Britannia.

Thus, the Minister of Justice, Margrave of Hochbach, carefully analysed the events and found that the accused incurred in practice of some articles of the Penal Code of Ruthenia, Law valid throughout the territory of the Empire. Considering the seriousness of the conduct committed and the penalties applied to such conducts, the Ministry of War and His Imperial and Royal Majesty's Own Office request to the Imperial Supreme Court to apply the maximum penalty, the expulsion of the accused citizen of the Empire. The charges against Bailey were upheld and was determined was revocation of citizenship and expulsion of the Empire.

After the coup, Christian assumed the Duchy of Prussian Britannia, annexing it to Letzembourg and renaming it as the Duchy of Preußenland.

Reconquest of Carpathia[edit | edit source]

On 22 June 2017, after days of tense negotiation, Domnitor Alexander XII of the Carpathia abdicated the Carpathian throne in favor of Grand Duke Christian I. With the consent of Emperor-King Oscar I, Christian accepted the Crown of the Principality of Carpathia, then becoming the acting Domnitor, and requested its reintegration into the Empire under the terms of the Treaty of Gretzenmacher.

During the celebrations of Empire's Day of 2017, on 02 August, Emperor-King Oscar elevated the status of the Principality of Carpathia as a kingdom, what raised the rank of the then Grand Duke to royal status.

Kalavria, Lostisland, Pavlov and Montescano[edit | edit source]

In August of 2018, Christian I met with Aggelos I, Duke of Argadia and former King of Imvrassia, to discuss plans of Imvrassian expansion and Greek culture. It was agreed upon that Christian I, already holding numerous Imvrassian titles of nobility, as well as an honorary military rank in the Imvrassian Royal Guard, would then become the Duke of Kalavria, also accepting the title of Marquess from the Imvrassian Royal Family, with the Letzembourgish Royal Family gaining the subjectship of Kalavria. Christian I also agreed to serve as the Imvrassian Ambassador to the United States. After his ascension to the Throne of Kalavria, Christian I created the Kalavrian language, closely resembling Greek, Italian, and Maltese.

He obtained Lostislandic citizenship in 2017 and Pavlovian citizenship in February 2018, and quickly built a name for himself amongst the Pavlovian Rus' peoples. In February 2018, he was appointed Polkovnyk of the Sts. Boris and Gleb Regiment of the Pavlovian Royal Guard. Shortly following his commission to the rank of Polkovnyk, he was granted the title of Count by the Tsar Alexander IV of Palov, and given immediate jurisdiction over the Governorate of Aleksandropil, being also in charge of the Linguistic Department of the University of St. Achmed the Calligrapher. In Lostisland, he acted as Director-General of Lostislandic Civil Guard.

On 29 May 2019, the Principality of Montescano was founded by the former Pavlovian Tsar, now assuming the name of Dionisiy Tezdzhan-Smahin as Sovereign, in a project based on a fusion of Mediterranean and Germanic culture. The Princely Ordinance № 20190612001 of 12 June 2019, by the Prince of Montescano, he granted to Christian I the peerage of Viscount of Cape Hatteras and was appointed Governor-General of the Island of Psatura[1]. He is also a member of the Sacred Military Order of St. Demetrios.

Early August 2021, Christian and Oscar I discussed the future of Carpathia and Letzembourg in the Empire, considering his wish to dedicate himself to Pavlov. The result of the negociation was the two states ruled by Christian leaving the Empire and becoming socii states of Pavlov and Christian was stripped of his royal status and commands in Karnia-Ruthenia, preserved his minor titles.

Military Service[edit | edit source]

Christian I currently serves in the United States Army as a Combat Medic/Healthcare Specialist. Upon graduating secondary school one year earlier than intended, he enlisted into the United States Army to train under the Army Medical Regiment's Education and Training Campus. Upon graduation of his medical training, he was assigned to his first unit, working closely with doctors, physician's assistants, nurses, and dentists in a troop medical clinic. During the COVID-19 pandemic, while serving the United States Army, he assisted civilian doctors and nurses in testing and treating COVID-19, as well as transporting medical supplies, also on behalf of the Karno-Ruthenian Red Cross[2].
