Consul before election

Casey Pemberton

Elected Consul

Dylan Callahan

The Delveran consular election of 2019 was the 5th annual Delveran consular election, held on Saturday, July 13. Former Consul Dylan Callahan defeated incumbent President Hannah Callahan. Having come in second place, Hannah Callahan retained the Presidency, becoming the first Delveran to win the same confederal seat in two consecutive elections. Both Callahans assumed their roles on July 14. President-elect Hannah Callahan was the first Delveran official to be sworn in at the annual Delveran Heritage Festival.

Background[edit | edit source]

Article One of the Delveran Constitution provides that the Consul and President of Delvera must be citizens of the Grand Republic, at least 21 years old, and a resident of Delvera. The election in July is a direct election, where voters cast ballots for the candidate of their choice for Consul, with the runner-up becoming President. The 2019 election was the first to utilize the instant runoff preferential voting method, which was instituted in 2018 in response to the increasing complexity of Delveran elections.

Results[edit | edit source]

According to the Ministry of the Interior, 17 ballots were cast over the 12 hours that the polls were open. With 25 eligible citizens, this represents a 68% voter turnout. This is statistically comparable to the 2018 election, which saw a 70% turnout. Lavrasia again comprised the largest share of the electorate with 7 ballots (41%) cast.[1]

First round[edit | edit source]

Because of a last minute write-in campaign for Oscar "Ogie" Brizendine, an ineligible non-citizen resident of Lavrasia, neither of the registered candidates achieved a majority of the vote in the initial round of voting, necessitating a second round.
