The Flag of Libertia also known as "The Black and Red" or "Rubro-Negra" is a tricolour consisting of the three equal horizontal black, white, and red bands. At the center, the middle section supports a Red Swiss-style shield with the white rooster Libertian Gallus, the national animal of Libertia. The flag is 13 by 19 units in height and lenght wich makes the proportion 2:3.
Symbolism[edit | edit source]
According to the Libertian Mythos writen by the occultist author A. Heartless, the flag's symbolism ties with the "Doctor's Odyssey" story to the Island of St. Borondon. As the Chapter X of the story specifies: "The black band represents the storm suffered by the Valencians who were aboard the drifting ship in the Atlantic Ocean before arriving at the fantastic island of St. Borondon. The white band, the paradisiacal wonders of the island,it's fauna, flora and abundance of lakes and rivers. The red band, the sacrifice imposed by the island before the departure of Pietro Berenguer of Lem to the neighboring islands.".
The red shield supposedly, according to some sources, represents the life of Pietro Berenguer of Lem after being saved by the island's giant white rooster that protected him from his countrymen who were conspiring to kill him in the Chapter VIII of the "Doctor's Odyssey" story.
When asked by the Journal La Libertá in an early interview, the Duke of Libertia, D. Guilherme described the flag's colors as: "Layers of our reality", he then explained each one of them: "Red is us, the blood that runs in our veins as well as all the life that exists in this earth. White, our divine goal, to reach peace or paradise, represents the clouds in our sky. And black, what breaks our eyesight boundary, the universe, the cosmos, it tells us that there is more to be expected.".
Rules governing the hoisting of the flag[edit | edit source]
The flag must be present in all the public apperances of the Duke of Libertia or any of the Libertian Aristocracy's members. There is only one flag in all of Libertia, it's been kept in the Sonelize Residence, the Honorary Consulate of Libertia in Portugal and personal residence the Duke and Duchess of Libertia.
Abusing the flag in any way is a criminal offense and is punishable under Aristocracy's decision as it implies contempt of the power of the state.
