Gaussland, officially the Grand Duchy of Gaussland (Portuguese: Grão-Ducado de Gaussland), is a micronation in Antarctica, and it is a vassal state of the Kingdom of Ruthenia, ruled by personal union since 30 June 2015 and recognised by Antarctic Micronational Union in 30 July 2015. It consists of the Kaiser Wilhelm II Land and adjacences and lies a claim over the territory between USLSSR and St.Charlie and is the sixteenth micronation to join the Antarctic Micronational Union. Its annexation to Ruthenia is celebrated in the form of national holiday on 30 June.
As a state, it secured the entry of Ruthenia into the Antarctic Micronational Union and after the dismantling of the institution, was the focus of the work of the Ministry of Antarctic Affairs. During the year 2017, when the Ministry of Antarctic Affairs resumed its activity and was effectively extinguished, having delegated its functions to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, some political leaders argued that perhaps it was the opportunity for the Empire to abdicate its Antarctic pretensions, which, at that time, was summarily dismissed.
In a speech to the House of Representatives of the Imperial Diet on 16 April 2018, the Emperor-King proposed the official discussion about the
surrender of the Gausslandian territory to the Grand Duchy of Flandrensis, the major diplomatic relation of the Empire in the area and a micronation very commited to the cause of enviromental protection of Antarctica. The Emperor-King requested that the Representatives deliberate on a possible surrender of the territory of Gaussland but, on 03 May, the President of the House of Representatives, Christian of Letzembourg, approved the transfer of the territory of Gaussland to the Grand Duchy of Flandrensis. The decision of the parliamentarians drew the attention of the Emperor-King and other citizens of the Empire, since there were no debates on the subject.
In case of handover of the territory of Gaussland, the Empire would lose the possibility of contribution in the activities that are undertaken in the Antarctic territory, since the possibilities of dissemination of the scientific research carried out by several nations in the Antarctic were studied, as a way of bringing information to the micronationalists on the subject. Under protests, the decision was sent to the House of the Peers[1].
On 04 June 2018, the Emperor-King Oscar I reject the idea to renounce the Karno-Ruthenian sovereignity over Gaussland and appointed Thomas, Count Karácsony as the High Comissioner of Gaussland, by the decree n. 148-2018[2].
