Archduke Johann Victor of Karnia is a member of House of Götzö-Thomaz-Rocha as the third child and second son of Archduke Luitpold of Karnia and his second wife, Archduchess Solange of Karnia. His father renounced his rights of sucession in order to marry, but his title and style, and of his children and grandchildren was eventually confirmed by his nephew, Oscar I, as long as recognized by the Head of the House.

He is the younger brother of Archduchess Walburga and of Archduke Olivier.
