Archduke Luitpold of Karnia is a member of House of Götzö-Thomaz-Rocha as the second son of Archduke Anton of Karnia and his wife, Archduchess Judith of Karnia. After the wedding of his elder brother, Archduke Francis and until his first marriage, he was the first in line to suceed his father as head of the house. He renounced his rights of sucession after his first marriage, but his title and style was eventually confirmed by his nephew, Oscar I.

From the first marriage, he had two children, Archduchess Walburga and Archduke Olivier. He remarried to Archduchess Solange of Karnia and they had Archduke Johann Victor.
