Archduke Maurice of Karnia is a member of House of Götzö-Thomaz-Rocha as the only child of Archduke Joseph Maximilian of Karnia and his wife, Archduchess Celia of Karnia. His mother renounced her rights of sucession in order to marry her paternal first cousin Joseph Maximilian, but as an approved marriage, the groom was made an Archduke, and their adopted son, also have his title recognized, but since he was adopted he had no succession right anyway.

He married in 2015, but the union was considered, under the provisions of the House Law of the Karno-Ruthenian Imperial Family, a morganatic marriage. Without the consent of the monarch, his wife or children couldn't bear any title despite already have no right of succession independent of the Emperor's consent, and they are considered commoners.
