The Nossian Monarchy, usually referred to as The Princely Crown, is a constitutional institution and historic office of Principality of Nossia. The monarchy comprises the reigning prince, his or her family, and the household organization which supports and facilitates the monarch in the exercise of his duties and prerogatives. The monarch and their immediate family undertake various official, ceremonial, diplomatic and representational duties. The Nossian Monarchy is currently represented by Carlo I and his presumptive heir, Ivano, Duke of Massac.

Powers and Duties[edit | edit source]

The powers of the Prince of Nossia are largely equivalent to those held by heads of state in other parliamentary democracies and are largely dictated by Basic Law: The Crown, which was passed in 2021. The Basic Law: The Princely Government also includes sections on the powers of the prince with reference to the government. Listing some of the powers of the prince, he gives assent to every law (except those that pertain to the prince's powers, those he can only decline assent) and international or bilateral treaties approved by Parliament. In addition, the prince endorses and signs the credentials of ambassadors and receives the credentials of foreign diplomats, appoints the Governor of the Bank of the Principality of Nossia, the State Comptroller upon recommendation of Parliament members, the rector of the Princely Academy of Science, the Broadcasting Authority, he endorses the appointment of the Bishop of Palco based on a list prepared by the Micronational Catholic Church, the Chairman of the DaVinci Foundation, the president of the Nossian Red Cross, the rector of the École des Troubadours, and appoints the High Chancellor and the president of Parliament. The prince also has the power to pardon or commute the sentences of both soldiers and civilians and ceremonially appoints judges to the Supreme Court, after a list produced by the President of Parliament[1].

Succession[edit | edit source]

In the succession of the reigning prince, dynasts who are "born in the blue" are preferred. On the unavailability of these, the most closely related dynast by blood shall be chosen. The heir-apparent or heir-presumptive to the Nossian throne is known by the title of Duke of Massac. On the lack of a dynast for the reigning house, the Princely Parliament shall be assembled in an extraordinary session, to decide on the new ruling dynasty of the Principality. The prince-to-be is required, by custom and legal convention, to be a professing Roman Catholic, or else not be allowed to mount the throne. [2]

Ceremonial[edit | edit source]

The ceremonial of the institution of the Nossian monarchy covers rites developed to demonstrate power by pomp and majesty. Some of the ceremonies performed by the Nossian prince include:

Enthronement[edit | edit source]

The enthronement of the then-pretender, confirming him as the Prince of the Nossians, in an elaborate ceremony on the Palasso Salina, the seat of the Nossian parliament.

Opening of Parliament[edit | edit source]

The Prince delivers the Speech from the Throne, outlining the government's agenda for the first legislative period, opening the parliament for the first six months.

Reenactment of the March on Palco[edit | edit source]

Every 05 January, the Prince, along with the 1st Princely Cavalry Division and the 1st Princely Infantry Division, reenact the March on Palco, as done on the day the capital was retaken from the Lifréians.

Reenactment of the Princely Acclamation[edit | edit source]

Reenactment of the Acclamation of Carlo I as the Nossian monarch.

Consecration of the Princely Crown[edit | edit source]

Every 09 July, the Prince again reenacts the consecration of the Princely Crown to the patron saint of the Principality, Saint Paulina, confirming her as the patron of the Nossian monarchy and the Princely Family. In early December of 2022, the prince discreetly instated Our lady of Seafarers as co-patron of the Principality, together with Saint Paulina, justifying the decision as "Payment of an old personal debt to her".

Inspection of the Princely Guard[edit | edit source]

By custom, the prince inspects the members of the Princely Guard on formation by the doors of the princely palace every anniversary of the principality's independence on the 5th of January.

Titles and Styles[edit | edit source]

The Prince is styled His Serene Highness. Although used only formally, the Prince also bears several other hereditary titles, some of which are infrequently bestowed on his relatives or their spouses. Some of these titles have merged with the Crown of Nossia as a result of the princely family's acquisition of various fiefs; some of them never implied ownership or territorial authority, although the princes of Nossia have long been substantial owners of land in Nossia and abroad. Most were granted or recognized by foreign monarchs, such as the Emperor-King of Karnia-Ruthenia, and can only pass through the male line. [3] The prince, as head of the princely family also claims a multitude of titles, among them being the titles of Prince of Lamburg-Massaca, Duke of Agril, Duke of Triana, Duke of Zamok Vodroliyy, Duke of Hadria and Baron of Mirante dea Crose.

The prince's titles, by rank and order of importance, are as such:

Prince of the Nossians
Grand-Duke in Lifréia
Count of Ambordia
Baron of Ibelina
Baron of Poste di Falcone
President of the Serene Republic of Palco

All palace correspondence features capitalized pronouns when referring to the prince and his heir.

The tradition of the monarchy of Nossia was that the flag flying from the staff on the window of his office be hoisted when the prince was present in Nossia. The current prince flies the flag whether he is present or not, preferring to keep his location private.
