Peter Melchior, Count Szentmária, is the fourth Minister of Culture and the first Hofballmusikdirektor. He is also the most reputed musicist of the Empire.
Early life[edit | edit source]
Peter Melchior was born on 07 September 1995, in the city of Santa Maria, a medium-sized city of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Both sides of his family, though, come from Jaguari, a city in the interior of the state, descending from Italian and Portuguese immigrants who arrived in Brazil by the end of the 1800s.
He started his undergraduate studies in Music – Flute in 2013 at Federal University of Santa Maria, which were interrupted for a period of two years (2016-17). In this period, he started and interrupted an undergraduate course in literature, studied music with private teachers and worked as flute teacher and flutist at Orquestra Jovem Recanto Maestro. He restarted his undergraduate studies in Music – Flute in 2018 at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, with degree expected to 2022.
Part of the Imperial and Royal Court, he was made count and received the Imperial and Royal Wedding Commemorative Medal in August 2021.
Micronational life[edit | edit source]
He was appointed Hofballmusikdirektor[1] on 24 May 2020 and, almost a month later, he was appointed to the Ministry of Culture[2]. He believes culture plays a major role in the well-being of the citizens and representation of the State and works for the production of authentic Karno-Ruthenian culture, becoming a pioneer in national arts.
Artistic career[edit | edit source]
Although engaging the path of music, literature was his passion since childhood, and, in the scarce idle time that music studies allow him, he studies literature and philosophy and researches poetry, aiming to write about the relation of music and literature and about aesthetics. As a flutist, he performed with Orquestra Sinfônica de Santa Maria, Orquestra Jovem Recanto Maestro, Orquestra Sinfônica da UFRJ, Banda Sinfônica da UFRJ and Banda Filarmônica do Rio de Janeiro, along with chamber recitals. As a writer, he has written poems and short stories, although never published.
