Ruthenia held its first parliamentary election between 06 and 16 May 2016, for the positions of the Leader of the House of Magnates, who is also the President of the Royal Diet and assumes the office of Minister-President of Ruthenia and Leader of the House of Representatives. The post of Minister-President has been used to replace the Chancellor of the Kingdom, as Ruthenia should adapt to the terms of the Karno-Ruthenian Compromise of 2016. Two parties participated in the election: the newly created Objectivist Party and the Moderate Party. The elections did not happen in Karnia because the positions for legislatures were filled by appointment.
Divided in two elections, citizens should vote first to the House of Magnates - upper house - of the newly renovated Ruthenian parliament and then to the House of Representatives - lower house - of parliament. With the banning of extremist parties in effect, the three parties founded at the time of the elections were at the right of the political spectrum and differences between them would be most about the possible liberalism defended by the parties. With the Constitutional Party refrain from running for election, the Moderate Party and the Objectivist Party disputed both polls.
